Announcing the Armadillo

• 399 Texas limestone pieces held together in compression-only suspension
• spanning 18 meters (60 feet)
• thickest piece = 15 centimeters (6 inches)
• thinnest piece = 5 centimeters (2 inches)
• fabricated and built by David Escobedo (The Escobedo Group)
• in collaboration with Dr. Philippe Block (BRG, ODB and ETH Zurich), John Ochsendorf (MIT and ODB) and Matthew DeJong (Cambridge and ODB) 


Within a 5-month period, this structure was modeled, fabricated, shipped overseas and erected within the Arsenale of Venice, Italy in time for the 15th La Biennale di Venezia di Architecttura.
